Learning News caught up with Rachel Hutchinson, Director of Learning and Development at Hilti, to find out about Hilti’s transformational journey to completely evolve how it provides learning to its 27,000-strong global workforce.
Speaking at Learning Technologies 2019 in London, Rachel talked about a lack of employeee engagement in learning and difficulties with their legacy learning management system.
The Hilti L&D team embarked on a new strategy and, with the help of Fuse Universal which provided its next generation learning system, evolved a new culture of social learning, with employees sharing tips and short videos and creating a great amount of ‘user generated content’.
The new approach has helped Hilti to improve its onboarding programmes and dramatically reduce the time-to-performance for employees. In some of its markets Hilti has seen this reduce from around 18 months to between 3 and 6 months.
Rachel explains that employees are now learning in the ways they want to learn, and that traditional types of formal training and elearning are being replaced with much shorter, informal learning resources.
