New look and feel for user guides

A market leader in the security industry gained award-winning status for its user guides which were designed and written by APT.

Upon meeting the marketing team of this leading security systems company, it was clear that they wanted the very best look and feel for their user guides in order to enter new markets.

This company offers cutting-edge technology in the areas of access control, CCTV and integrated security systems, choosing APT to write and localise a range of User Guides for the UK, Irish, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish and Dutch markets.

Since APT was able to provide professional 3-D imaging illustrations, the user guides were written in a particularly user-friendly way, ensuring each range of manuals was consistent in style in order to reduce the cost of translation.

Brief

Write a range of user guides that would have a new look and feel and that would be more easily read by the user
Translate all the user guides into 6 European languages
Ensure the 12-week deadline was met

Solution

Initial 4 days of consultation with the client to gain a complete understanding of not just the requirements, but the technical scope of the products
Team of authors and illustrators working together, working with the client at relevant product review stages
Project manager overseeing review of each user guide before starting the translation, ensuring that the file is suitable for translating with a translation memory
Suitably qualified translators providing test work ensuring the style was to the satisfaction of the client
Working directly with the client’s in-country personnel for content review, and applying amendments via our online tools directly into the documents and translation memories
Assigned in-house desktop publishing team

Result

The client was provided with an industry award, achieving 5-star status for their user guides for style, readability and content
European language versions produced on time and the translations were produced to the satisfaction of all in-country review teams
