Online Help, Strings, Audio and Flash Files

APT translates half a million words into 12 languages for online help, strings and audio and flash files for a well-known software company.

When your business is purely online you have to get the tone and language right for each region you do business in.

To embark on its first localisation project, a medium-sized software company was in need of a company that could produce accurately localised content that would migrate with their applications.

Understandably nervous, the client was given much re-assurance in the early stages of our collaboration and quickly became confident that we were the right localisation partner

Brief

  • Phase 1 – Translate and localise User Interface (UI) content and Help Resource files into 12 languages including Japanese and Korean
  • Phase 2 – Translate and localise audio, Flash and Read-me files into the same range of languages
Ensure localisation consistency in all these files

Solution

  • Full in-house localisation facilities at the Project Managers’ disposal
  • Qualified software translators worked on the project, familiar with the relevant coding, ensuring clean format for content migration
  • Our localisation facilities enabled us to work directly with all the files
  • Help Resource files manipulated using XML format and in-house tools
  • Translation memory tools fully used and text stored in a translation memory for future work
  • Appropriate script readers and voice-over artists used for audio work in conjunction with approved client terminology
  • Working with the client’s in-country teams guaranteed consistency

Result

  • Accurate foreign language packs provided
  • Client successfully marketing and selling in 13 countries as planned

Next Phase

  • Six further countries to follow in September 2007
  • Software updates localised every 6 weeks
